Convert DataPerfect Databases and WordPerfect Notebook Files on Windows
Legacy File Converter now opens DataPerfect (.STR) and WordPerfect Notebook (.NB) files and writes Excel, CSV, or SQLite. dBase (.DBF) joins them under Databases.

TL;DR
Legacy File Converter now converts DataPerfect databases (.STR) and WordPerfect Notebook files (.NB) to XLSX, CSV, or SQLite. dBase (.DBF) moves into the same Databases group. Drop a folder in; Smart sends each database to the format you pick. Everything runs on your Windows PC.
File extensions this covers
- .STR: DataPerfect database structure file. The panel data files next to it are read automatically; you do not add them yourself.
- .NB: WordPerfect Notebook (Notebook 3.1, plus text-form secondary merge files that use {END FIELD} and {END RECORD}).
- .DBF: dBase, FoxPro, and Clipper tables.
If you found an old drive full of these and could not tell what they were, this is the short answer: they are databases from WordPerfect Office and the DOS era, and they can still be opened.
Three ways out
- XLSX: one workbook. Each DataPerfect panel gets its own sheet. Best when people will open the data in Excel.
- CSV: one plain file per table. Best when another program needs an import file. A database with several panels becomes a folder of CSV files.
- SQLite: one database file with a table for each panel. Best when you want to keep the data as real tables and query it.
How to convert them
Add the files or a folder
Drag in .STR, .NB, or .DBF files, or a whole folder. Mixed folders are fine: documents, spreadsheets, and images go to their own formats in the same run.
Pick the database format
With Smart selected, set Databases convert to to XLSX, CSV, or SQLite. XLSX is the default.
Convert
The output plan shows how many database files will be written and in which format. Converted files are saved where you choose and appear in Conversion Library.
Spreadsheets can go to SQLite too
The Spreadsheets row in Smart now includes SQLite. Lotus 1-2-3, Quattro Pro, and Excel files can be written as a SQLite database with one table per sheet.
Why convert locally
Old databases often hold client lists, case records, and member rolls. Converting on your own PC means none of it is uploaded to an online converter. The same installer handles WordPerfect documents, Lotus and Quattro Pro spreadsheets, images, and media, so a whole archive drive can be done in one pass.
